Digital discovery and marketing for restaurants, pubs, hotels and hospitality brands.
We help good hospitality businesses get discovered and chosen.
People don’t find restaurants, pubs and hotels in one place anymore. They Google them. Find them on Maps. See someone talk about them on social media. Read reviews. Ask ChatGPT where they should eat. Ask Gemini for a dog-friendly pub nearby. Discover somewhere through an article, check the menu, look at the photos, read three Google reviews and eventually, hopefully, make a booking.
We help hospitality businesses understand that journey and make sure they’re showing up in the right places, with the right information, along the way.
The objective is simple: Make more of the right people discover you.
Hospitality discovery is changing
Google isn’t disappearing, neither is social media, but they are being joined by another way potential customers find their new favourite places: AI.
Someone looking for dinner can now ask a question like:
“Where’s a good independent restaurant in Exeter for an anniversary dinner that isn’t too formal and serves steak?”
That’s a very different search from typing ‘restaurants Exeter’ into Google.
And it’s increasingly important that hospitality businesses can be understood and recommended in both situations.
Google itself now allows UK users to use AI Mode to find restaurants using detailed requirements such as location, group size, dietary requirements and availability, and then move towards making a reservation.
Meanwhile, research from CGA by NIQ and Reputation found that 26% of UK consumers were already using AI tools to learn about hospitality venues — roughly level with the 27% using Google Maps.
Hospitality discovery is becoming more fragmented, and businesses need to understand how they appear across all of it.
What is hospitality digital discovery?
We use digital discovery to describe all the ways somebody can encounter, research and ultimately choose a hospitality business online.
That includes:
- Google Search
- Google Maps and local search
- AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini
- Social media
- Reviews and recommendation sites
- Restaurant and hotel booking platforms
- Online editorial and third-party recommendations
- Your own website
- Your menu, content and imagery
- The eventual booking journey
Traditional digital marketing tends to treat these as individual channels.
We don’t think customers behave like that.
Someone might discover your restaurant on Instagram, Google your name, look at your Google Business Profile, visit your website, check the menu, read reviews and finally book.
Someone else might simply ask an AI assistant where they should eat.
We look at the whole journey.
What does FoodieBoys actually do?
We find out how people are discovering businesses like yours, where you’re visible, where you’re missing and who’s being recommended instead.
Then we work out what to do about it.
That can include:
Search and local visibility
Understanding what potential customers are searching for and improving your visibility across Google Search, Google Maps and other local results.
That includes SEO, local search, Google Business Profile optimisation, website content and identifying the searches that could actually result in a customer walking through your door.
AI search and GEO
We investigate how your business appears when people use ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI-powered search and recommendation tools.
Are you being recommended?
What are you being recommended for?
Are the answers accurate?
Which competitors appear instead?
Which websites, reviews and other sources are influencing those recommendations?
And, most importantly, what can realistically be done to improve it?
We don’t believe adding the letters “AI” to ordinary SEO suddenly makes it revolutionary.
Good AI visibility starts with making your business easy to understand, verify and recommend across the web.
Content strategy
Hospitality websites are often very good at saying things like “we’re passionate about using the finest local ingredients to create unforgettable experiences.”
Unfortunately, so is everybody else.
We develop useful, distinctive content around the things potential customers genuinely want to know.
What do you serve? What are you known for? Who is it for? What’s nearby? Can I bring the children? Is it somewhere I’d take someone for an anniversary? Do you cater for allergies? What’s Sunday lunch like? Where can I park?
Good content helps humans make decisions.
Conveniently, it also gives search engines and AI systems much better information from which to understand your business.
Website and booking journey
Getting discovered is fairly pointless if your website then makes booking a table feel like applying for a mortgage.
We look at what happens after someone finds you.
That includes website structure, navigation, menus, calls to action, mobile experience, booking journeys, landing pages and the information people need before deciding to visit.
Measurement and digital strategy
Marketing activity isn’t the same as marketing success.
We use search data, website analytics, booking journeys, visibility data and competitor research to understand what’s actually happening.
The question isn’t simply:
“How many people saw our Instagram post?”
It’s:
“Is our digital presence helping more people discover, choose and book us?”
We’re not a traditional full-service marketing agency
That’s deliberate.
There are excellent agencies with teams of designers, photographers, developers, PR specialists, social media executives and account managers.
If what you primarily need is a rebrand, a six-person photoshoot and somebody posting three times a week on Instagram, one of those agencies may be exactly what you need.
We do something different.
We specialise in understanding how hospitality businesses are discovered and chosen online.
You work directly with senior digital expertise rather than through layers of account management.
We can work directly with an owner or marketing team, or alongside your existing web agency, PR agency, social team, photographer or freelancers.
We’re interested in the bit that joins everything together:
FoodieBoys was a hobby light-hearted food blog by two friends who liked going out to eat and drink. However, with 15+ years of personal digital marketing experience, and years of witnessing quality businesses lose revenue due to poor digital marketing we decided to pivot.
We help you understand where potential customers are looking, which businesses are being recommended and why.
Rather than treating SEO, social media, content and AI optimisation as separate disciplines, we bring them together around a simple commercial objective:
Making sure great hospitality businesses are visible in the places people increasingly use to decide where to eat, drink and stay, and turning that visibility into visits, bookings and revenue.
